Promoting Women’s Health & Well being

WELCOME TO YOGA MOTION

Yoga Motion Founder Jo with her amazing Yogidogi 2010

Jo and her loyal Yogidogi

Hi, my name is Jo Gordon and in 2007 I created Yoga Motion.

I remember teaching my first Hatha Yoga class with two enthusiastic women that had never done yoga before. They loved it and ended up becoming Yoga Motion regulars.

My Yoga classes at Yoga Motion have a meditative flow, allowing you to feel the connection of mind and body with your breath. This quality of practice is the cornerstone of Classical Yoga. Experiencing yoga more than just physical exercise. Learning to focus on your breath throughout movement, supporting you to find your inner ‘Stillness in Action’.

I bring together extensive studies in Classical Yoga with 30 years as a Registered Nurse, working in most health areas for adults and children both nationally and internationally. In 1996 I completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Women’s Health Nursing. My personal yoga journey began in the mid 1990’s, traveling throughout India completing numerous yoga and meditation retreats. I obtain a Diploma of Classical Yoga (500+ hours) and then in 2012 I completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Pregnancy Yoga, Postnatal Yoga and Mums & Bubs Yoga.

To further my expertise in Pregnancy Yoga I became a qualified HypnoBirthing Mongan Method Practitioner, Rebozo Instructor and HypnoMothering Practitioner. I am honoured to be the first HypnoBirthing Practitioner in the Northern Territory since 2013 and spent several years volunteering as one of their Australian Steering Committee Member.

Jo is also the author of “A Life in Yoga- Elly Hali” published in Australian Yoga Life magazine, Issue 33, 2012. Diana Timmins published an article highlighting Jo’s yoga journey “Long Distance Yoga” in Australian Yoga Journal, Issue 46, 2015.

Yoga Motion Journey

Since 2007, I facilitated Hatha Yoga classes for several local organisations and managed a commercial lease for Yoga Motion Studio during 2013 to 2018. This experience allowed me to create my own peaceful place that served many yoga students with Hatha Yoga, Beginners General Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Pregnancy Yoga, Postnatal Yoga, Postnatal Recovery, Mums & Bubs Yoga classes and I also held Classical Yoga Workshops and HypnoBirthing there. I hold fond memories of this time at my Yoga Motion Studio and I am grateful for the many connections made with the students. Some remain close friends with me to this day.

As the doors of Yoga Motion Studio closed another door immediately opened and I was fortunate to continue teaching Hatha Yoga, Pregnancy Yoga and HypnoBirthing. However, with the event of Covid-19 I postponed my Hatha Yoga classes in July 2021. Throughout this uncertain time I continued supporting pregnant women and now solely specialise in Pregnancy Yoga and HypnoBirthing. Focusing on educating, supporting and empowering pregnant mums for a positive birth.

In 2017, I recognised the gentle yet effective body work of Ortho-Bionomy and now as an Associate Practitioner of Ortho-Bionomy I enjoy supporting women with this unique modality to ease discomfort or pain, realign and balance their posture and promote body awareness for better health and wellbeing, throughout all stages of life. I am blessed with these opportunities for this is what I am passionate about- to promote women’s health and wellbeing!

“The Yoga with Jo is my stepping stone and my rock, I am so grateful. I have been coming to Jo’s weekly Classical Yoga classes since July 2008, and I really do not know how I functioned before. Jo has given me tools, like breathing and stretching that helps me at home in stressful situations and when I can not sleep. Jo has a beautiful grounded way to create a space of tranquility.”

About Yoga Motion young Jo cuddling baby Phillip and his sister Dannielle close by

Birth of Inspiration

When I look at this photo, I realise that I have been supporting families since the age of 12. Here I am nursing Phillip after he was fed by his mother and with his 2.5 year old sister Dannielle close by. I hold great memories of this time, I would visit them every afternoon after my schooling from the first day that Phillip came home from hospital as a newborn.

By the time Phillip was 6 months of age his parents had confidence in me to independently baby sit him and Dannielle. This was a big step, as Phillip was a premature baby but his parents trusted me and knew that my parents were right next door if ever I needed extra assistance. I joyously remember these times and baby sat them well into their childhood years. We remain good friends to this day with a life long bond.

Eventually, I became known as the ‘babysitter’ and supported other families near by. So perhaps these early days provided a foundation for me to naturally support new mothers and their babies. For it just feels right for me!

Message from Jo

With the unfolding development of Yoga Motion, I wholeheartedly support women through their personal journey into motherhood and beyond. If a mum has a unique need then I am committed to find a way to best support her, this could be through Women’s Health education, gentle yoga, relaxation techniques and Ortho-Bionomy. Every skill and technique I provide IS GENTLE.

Obviously, there is no need for me to apologise for this style of teaching, as gentleness is our basic nature. ‘Stillness in Action’ is the key and is what Yoga Motion is all about. Yes, less is best and to gain there does not need to be pain- it is quite the opposite. Well this is the findings that I am guided by!

Providing a safe and nurturing space for the women that I support is paramount, so that they have the opportunity to relax and have a better sense of self. A time for mum to notice where they are, what do they feel and to notice what is going on within and around them. A time to feel and connect with their baby. A time to build confidence and learn how to trust their birthing body. Thus, I send my greatest wish to the expecting women of Yoga Motion: “May you gently ease into your new adventure of Motherhood!”

Many Blessings,

Jo Xx
