Why Modify Yoga During Pregnancy?

As a general rule of safety, it is recommended that pregnant mums avoid intense exercise, avoid any moves that jolt the joints and pelvic floor, and avoid positions or activities that may stress the body or compromise blood flow to the uterus.

With pregnancy comes a variety of significant hormonal, physiological and psychological changes. So welcoming and acknowledging these changes during pregnancy and being prepared to adapt your yoga practice for safety is paramount.

For the best practice, some yoga poses are contraindicated and are best avoided no matter how fit or healthy you may feel. Meanwhile, other yoga poses need to be modified according to your unique body as you progress in pregnancy.

Your body is constantly changing throughout pregnancy, so it only makes sense to match your yoga practice with these changes. For this reason, it is strongly recommended that mums practice yoga with a qualified yoga teacher, who is very familiar with the pregnancy and postnatal aspects of yoga.

Yoga Motion’s Pregnancy Yoga

These unique yoga classes are more than just providing Pregnancy Yoga. They are facilitated by Jo Gordon, where she combines her extensive experience and knowledge as a Registered Nurse, Women’s Health Nurse, HypnoBirthing Childbirth Educator and Classical Yoga Teacher; specialising in Pregnancy Yoga and Postnatal Recovery.

Please inform Jo of any changes in your health from your previous pregnancy yoga class, as yoga postures may need to be modified or an alternative yoga posture may need to be given. Jo will guide you through a safe yoga practice that best suits your pregnancy and you will gain many benefits, as you prepare for the birth of your baby.

“I am loving Pregnancy Yoga. It has really helped with my back pain and made me relax and trust my body with labour. Jo is amazing and is always happy to help with each individual’s problem.”
